How To Meditate With A Toddler During The Coronavirus

Lately I’ve been working to bring space, breath, and mediation into my almost 2-year old’s life. It’s not easy when I’m feeling scared, anxious, and uncertain about the fate of the world and the nation. This practice is for the benefit of both of us. When I start to feel overwhelmed around her I try to get both of us to calm down and “meditate.”

Here are three ways I do that with her.

  1. Color

I know no quarantined working mom wants to clear up marker covered walls or crayon smudged floors. These Color Wonder coloring pages by Crayola leave no mess. I give my daughter a paper and take one for myself. I find it relaxes both of us and helps us focus. We have the Baby Shark and Pepa themes. oink.

  2. Actually Meditate

Our NYC apartment is small but I’ve carved a space for myself complete with crystals, tarot cards, journals, and a small yoga blanket that I use as a soft foundation to sit and meditate. My daughter has started to sit there and try to meditate as well. She’s mimicking me but I’m working on making it more of a practice and routine in our day.

  3. Read

Sometimes I forgot the simple act of sitting down and cuddling up with a book during a time of stress or panic can calm me down. I make sure to do it as often as possible. My daughter loves books!

I know some moms may be reading this wondering how on earth does she sit still? This make no sense. You are correct. If I do these three things in order as listed it equals about 5 minutes. She gets bored immediately with one thing and wants to do something else. It.is.a.practice. For both of us!

Stay calm and carry on my mamas. You are not alone and we can get through this together. x
